The House Rules serve to help maintain and healthy and safe environment for all residents.
What to do if you are struggling
Your success is paramount at the Sanus House. Our goal is to help you thrive through addiction. And we know, getting there can be challenging and overwhelming at times. We are here to help solve some of the problems you will face while living with us.
- Ask the House President, Vice President, House Manager, and/or Landlord for help. Reach out to the person most accessible at the time.
- While there can and will be consequences of your actions, we are not here to punish or condemn.
- Honesty, integrity, and accountability should always be your first response.
- We will do everything we can to assist and get you back to where you need to be.
General
Rent/Lease
- Each resident will follow rent/lease arrangements according to their individually signed rental/lease agreement.
- The House Presidency clause:
- - The House President and Vice President will receive a rent discount in exchange for presidency responsibilities.
- - The House President will have first option of the single rooms and the Vice President will have second option of the single rooms.
- - If the House President and/or Vice President choose not to use the single rooms, they will still receive a discount and the single room will be opened up by seniority to house members.
- - When there is a change in the Presidency, the new presidency will have first option of single rooms and any resident who occupies said rooms will be expected to vacate.
- Every resident will pay a security deposit.
- - $75 of each deposit will not be refunded for cleaning and sanitation.
- - Additional funds may be kept if rental/lease agreement is broken, damage has occurred, and/or to cover unpaid fees.
- Rent is due on or before the 1st of each month.
- - $10 of each on-time payment will be donated to a house budget for common use items.
- - If you need an extenstion to pay rent, contact the House Manager before the first of the month.
- - Unapproved late payments are charged $5 per day to a maximum of 5 days.
- - Resident is subject to automatic eviction if not paid by the 5th of the month.
- - Payment can be made electronically (Venmo) or in-person.
- - In person payments must be in an envelop with the residents name, date of payment
amount paid and month paid written on the outside of the envelope. The envelop must
be sealed.
- - Residents are to notify the House Treasurer when payment has been made.
Fees and Fines
- Fees are defined as monies that include but are not limited to rent, rent paid late, UA cost, bedding, damages and repairs.
- Fines are defined as monies that include but are not limited to house write-ups, dirty UA’s, missed mandatory meeting.
- Fees are funds that are paid to the landlord and are kept by the landlord.
- Fines are funds that are paid to the house and are used by the house as voted upon by residents.
- - House money may go toward:
- - household needs (ex: toilet paper, hand soap, cleaning supplies, detergent, paper towels, dishes, etc).
- - household wants (ex: BBQ, shared food, yard chairs, kitchen appliance, etc).
- - house celebrations and/or activities (ex: BBQ, picnic, bowling, other outing, etc).
- Fines are a part of taking accountability and may be paid back at a rate of $10 per hour for extra work (not regular chores) done.
- - The work will be in the house or yard as agreed upon by house vote and need.
- House money will be held by the president.
- Purchases will be determined by house vote.
First 30 Days
- No visitors permitted.
- All residents are required to enrole in a 12 step program and obtain sponsorship.
- - One (1) write-up will be issued for each week the resident remains non compliant.
- All residents must attend five (5) weekly 12 step program meetings.
- - All attendance must be recorded and signed.
- All residents must checkin daily with the designated House President
- - This can be by phone or in person
- - It must be an auditable contact. Text messages are not sufficient.
- Curfew 10:00 PM
Post 30 Days
- All residents must attend three (3) weekly 12 step program meetings.
- - All attendance must be recorded and signed.
- Curfew 12:00 PM (midnight).
Extended Absenses, Overnight/Weekend passes
- Only permitted after 30 days and with approval from the House (unanimous vote of all residents).
- - Emergency requests will be handled on a case by case basis by the House President.
- Must be logged, duration and location.
- UA is required upon return.
Medication
- Must be reported to the House President and recorded.
- Must be kept in a locked container. (Resident's responsiblity.)
Hygiene
- Shower daily
- Brush Teeth
- Wear deodorant
- Wash your laundry, including bedding weekly
Pets
Chores
- Will be assigned by the House.
- Are to be logged and reported as complete.
- Are to be rotated.
Visitors
- NO VISITORS ARE PERMITTED WHO ARE OR ARE SUSPECTED TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL, DRUGS
(LEGAL OR ILLEGAL) OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE TO ALTER CONSCIOUSNESS.
- All visitors must be approved by the House President, Vise President and house vote.
- The House will keep a visitor log were all visitors must sign in and out.
- Visitors must adhear to curfews.
- Visitors may not stay over night.
- Visitors must leave immedately if requested by the House President.
- Visitors should be encouraged to remain within the common areas of the house.
- Visitors may enter the bedroom of a resident only if invited and the door must remain open.
- Residents are responbile for the actions of their visitors. Residents can incur a Write Up,
violation or immediate discharge based on the actions of their visitor.
- Visitors must be accompanied by a resident at all times.
Keeping Order in the House
Common Area
- No sleeping in the common area.
- No furniture may be moved to other rooms or bedrooms.
- Furniture may be rearranged as needed or liked with the consent of the other residents.
- Make room for others.
- Last person to leave the room turns off the lights.
- Thermostat is controlled by the House President.
- The TV must be kept at a moderate level.
- The computer is for everyone's use and may not be locked with a password.
- Any disagreements, the House President has final say.
Kitchen
- All food must be kept in sealed containers.
- - No raw fish other than canned tuna.
- - Fruits and vegetables may sit on the counter if they are kept contained.
- No food or other items are to be left out on the counters.
- Refrigerator must be kept clean of old and spoiled food.
- Dishes must be rinsed and stacked next to the sink to be washed.
- - No dishes are to be left in the sink.
Bedrooms
- Bedding must be washed weekly and used on your bed.
- Clothing must be hung up, in your dresser or in a laundry bin.
- You are only permitted the use of your designated space.
- Floors are to remain uncluttered and clean.
- You may hang pictures and other items within your personal space only.
- Electric or alternate heaters are NOT permitted.
- - Electric blankets are okay.
- Small fans are okay.
Bathrooms
- No toiletries to to be left out on the counter or in the shower/tub.
- Counters, toilets, tubs/showers floors are to be kept clean.
- Clean up after yourself.
Laundry
- Is provided to all residents.
- Residents are expected to work out a schedule that works for the House.
- As funds permit the House budget will provide detergent, etc.
- Must be removed promptly after the cycle ends.
- - Residents are NOT to remove the clothing of other residents.
Garage
- Is common area.
- Parking is to be worked out by the House.
- Personal items such as tools should be in a locked box.
- No smoking is permitted.
Yard (immediate fenced area)
- Is common area.
- Will have designated smoking areas.
- Must be kept clean and orderly.
Parking (and outside the immediate fenced yard)
- Is common area.
- Is a designated smoking area, but must be alway from the cars.
- No inoperable vehicles are permitted unless being actively worked on.
- No residents are permitted beyond the South fence.
- The trailers, sheds and other buildings are not to be entered or disturbed.
- - Doing so will result in a violation and could result in immedate eviction.
- No fires are permitted.
- Fireworks are permitted only with the approval of the House and according to legal use.
Accountability
- Have and maintain regular employment.
- Pay rent on time.
- Addend House and 12 step meetings as required.
- Maintain a clean personal and common living area.
Write Up
Are associated with minor infractions. Three (3) Write Ups make one (1) Volation.
- Failue to complete a chore.
- Clothing left in the laundry area longer than 1 hour.
- Demonstrating disrespect, disruptive verbal altercations, general insubordination
- Failure to maintain a tidy personal space and personal items.
Violations
Three (3) violations result in review by The House and House Presidency. Consequences
and recourse include and are not limited to, seventy-two (72) hour, five (5) day or
up to thirty (30) day eviction and could lead to immediate discharge.
- Failure to comply.
- - Instructions given by House President.
- - Stipulations and rules set by the House.
- Unexcused absense from manditory House meetings.
- Unexcused absense from manditory 12 Step meetings.
- Failue to meet curfew.
- Three (3) consecutive Write Ups.
- Initial and consecutive dirty UA.
- Smoking outside of designated smoking area.
Consequences and House Recourse
- First offense, 72 hour eviction.
- Second offense, 5 day eviction
- Third offense, 30 day eviction
Actions that Warrant Immediate Discharge:
These could also lead to a complaint being filed with the police.
- Theft.
- Sex in the house or on the property.
- Physical altercations.
- Any illegal activity.
- Positive drug or alcohol screen.
- Refusing a drug screen.
- Actions that involve using any substance for the purpose of altering a person's state of
consciousness and/or awareness.
- Possession of any kind of weapon with the intent to harm or damage person or property.
- Causing or enabling harm to another person or residient.
- Causing or enabling damage to property, personal or real.
- And other prohibited acts as deemed reasonable.
Dirty UA Consequences and House Recourse
- First offense, 72 hour eviction.
- Second offense, 7 day eviction
- Third offense, 1 year eviction

Acknowledgment
I have read and understand the above stated rules.
Failure to comply completely with the rules as stated can lead to
discipline to include the issuance of a Write Up, Violation or immedate discharge and the possible
loss of any prepaid rent and deposit monies.
